First Impression
I remember writing this for Social Studies class my Freshman year of High School. We watched a movie that showed the various ages of the Earth, all conducted to different kinds of music but without narration. We were supposed to write a paper about it and I asked if I could write a poem instead. The teacher liked me a lot so he let me. This was my rendition of the movie.
When first
the world
was new
its beauty lay
in natures own creations.
The clouds
came rolling in
upon the wind,
rolling and breaking
as do waves
upon the rock.
The waves
their mass
looking like
shimmering
uncut glass
came in
high
upon the tide
rising above the land
then crashing down
upon the sand.
Now man comes,
on the scene
bringing with him
technology
and machines;
their steam
streaming
and pouring
across the land,
covering the Earth
which gives us life
causing forest inhabitants
harm and strife.
Is this
the destiny
of man
to cover
the beauty
of our land
with factories,
polluting
even the air
we breathe?
Soon
our technology
may destroy
that which we see left
of our world's early beauty.
